Losing a player due to a car accident before the game was not the best start in the world for the Woods, who arrived at the ground having to shuffle the team to accommodate the problem.

The game got off to a bad start for the Woods when a harsh decision against their defence on the edge of their box resulted in a early goal from the resultant free kick. Things got much worse when a hopeful cross into the box was mis-headed into the Woods’ net for an own goal. Northwood were two goals down, whilst actually taking the game to the opposition, and the score seemed unreal.

The visitors kept making unforced errors, which were ruining the good work undertaken. Woods were matching the Carshalton team for effort, but seemed on the back foot following the early goals. The game seemed well and truly over when Carshalton scored a goal just before half-time from what looked blatant offside position.

Northwood’s young side could have thrown in the towel, but to their credit they never gave up and there were close calls at both ends. Ben Dowsett made some good stops for the Woods, whilst at the other end some chances were not finding the net. It all seemed done and dusted and Northwood had used both subs when it seemed that the scoring was over. But when a long ball down the middle was somehow missed, the score became 4-0.

However, the fun had not ended, and when a through ball from Murray Williamson found Matt Andrews, he lobbed the Carshalton goalie to reduce the arrears. On the day, Woods had inflicted some problems on themselves, but the young side were dealt some harsh lessons, and if anything was learnt from them it will help them through the rest of the season.
